The spanish painter Domingo Millán exhibits in San Francisco
The San Francisco’s Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art exhibits from October 6th to November 6th the firs individual exhibition in america from the Valencian painter and writer Domingo Millán with residence in Barcelona. Work exhibited realtes to the period 1985-89 where the artist expressed in an extremely peculiar shape intermixing that figurative with symbolic an inheritance of previous stages where symbolism took a primordial place.
Millán –such is his signature- is an artist in the best sense of the word; painter, engraver, poet and writer. Born at Alcoy (Alicante) and with residence there since in the marvellous Catalonian capital where Miró, Dalí, Picasso, Gaudí and many others made their life or a great portion of it. Millán knew how to take advantage of the critics’ esteem, particulary from the exacting Barcelona’s galleries and we can now say his real recognition as one of the present Catalonian art reputed personalities begins when he exhibited at the renowned Sala Gaspar and helped – no less- by Picasso, Miró, Clavé and Tharrats –these last two although not much known in America- masters in Europe.
Domingo Millán’s work is widely analyzed by a connaisseur, the Museum director Mr Raúl Oyuela in the introduction made in the exhibition catalogue.
A visit to the exhibition held at the galleries of the California’s Spanish Union –Cultural Center- seat of the Museum, which new premises will be opened by his Majesty Juan Carlos, King of Spain is highly recommended.
Millán work has travelled the world from his native Spain to Australia crossing Europe and Africa by the way. Several museums –among them the one now exhibiting his work- relied on the artist’s pieces.
Indipendently from his pictorial work, Domingo Millán is a writer and also an excellent performer in graphic arts at diverse specialities: engraving, Stching, drypoint, xylography, lithography, serigraphy, linoleum, etc. preparing issues with other writers and reputed publishers.
The artist have been awarded several prizes between them the Italy’s Turquinia Biennial. Domingo Millán is now admitted through a large door is Usa, although had previously already took part in collective exhibitions in New York and in our city of San Francisco. The exhibition is open to the public without any charge every day except Tuesdays when premises are closed.
